Snow Days
We were so lucky to make it to the Sierras this past weekend for what was probably the last big winter storm for our mountains. We spent all Sunday tubing..
The kids loved that.
Our cabin that we stayed at.
The night we arrived....hardly any snow.
The following day.... 12 inches of snow
The kids also had all day snow baording lessons. They did great.

Crafts and Such
Here are some of those craft projects I wrote about . ( sorry, I didn't get a good pic of the first one)
My "home" project. Love it, Emma helped me with this one.

My favorite Christmas burlap wreath turned valentines wreath.

The heart in home!

My felt valentines wreath for outside.

As you can see, the valentines decor has arrived at my house. Yes, I realize it's January, but we have no snow, no winter weather, in fact we are in the 70s. So, welcome Valentines day!

A new year
Welcome 2012. Now that our schedules are back on schedule, I feel a bit of normalcy and a lot of excitement for 2012. We (the family and I ) have big plans for this year. Brandon is going back to school for a second masters and I am also returning to school to get a nursing degree. I am so excited. It will be a slow process since Brandon and I still have the kids needs as our number one priority. This means that I will study and take classes only when they are in school or Brandon can be home with them (which is hard to juggle between him working and going to school at night). We have decided together that these goals are important to us, and I am sure we will see them through!
The kids are also picking back up swimming twice a week and Emma will continue ballet. Elias continues to go to pre- kindergarten three days a week and enjoys a library class and speech every week. The new year brings fresh ideas and new beginning to our family. Emma and I have been crafting away together and can't wait to continue more crafts each month. Elias and Brandon continue to "practice" baseball in the back yard weekly to master Elias' skills. He loves his dad so much and watching them throwing the ball to each other is priceless.
I look forward to an excited and busy 2012!!! Bring it on!!!

Another pillow project
So with the kids back to school, I feel like I am able to get back into my sewing hobby. I decided to drop by the thrift store to see if they had any hidden treasures. I came across two nautica linen pillowcases. Score, for 50 cents each, I thought I was pretty thrifty. I am amazed at what a simple pillowcase can be transformed into. It's just the right amount of fabric to make a simple skirt, shorts, or pants.

About 2 hours of work later, I had these, my first pair of pants for my little guy. I am pretty proud of them, although, they come off very casual, almost lounge wear looking. But, with the right shirt, I hope they are wearable as a semi-casual pant. I was able to use the opening of the pillow case to create a cuff-looking hem on the pants. Really handsome.

Elias is just happy to see anything made for him. And I love to see him in my creations. Of course, I need to give credit to MADE because I once again used her pattern for the long flat front pant.

Why we love Kauai
There are so many reasons we love to go to Kauai over any other Island, but topping the list is it's isolation from the rest of the world. It is truly like time stands still and no person except those around you exhists in that moment. It's great family time for us, and if you know us, that means surf, sun, and sand too. It was glorious waking up every morning to the sound of the waves at our back door and heading out to get a morning swim at 730 am. It is the only time I will admit that I enjoyed getting up early. Most days, we would get up and swim and build sand castles for a couple hours before heading off to a new adventure for the day... losts of very cool beaches, mountains, and little towns to explore. But at the end of the day, we would always end up back at "our" beach enjoying our serenity. I call it "our" beach because we have never again stayed at such an undiscovered paradise. Most often, we are the only family on the beach at any given time. That is nearly impossible to do these days. We see many a tour boat go by and can imagine they only wonder, "how do I get to that beach and stay at that beach house." We like to keep it our secret!
Anyhow, we are back and getting back into schedule, if you know me, that is my way. So long Kauai, we will be back again!

This is the scene out our lanai (porch)
The kids watching Brandon carefully shuck and crack a coconut.
Headed out to the beach.
This picture just makes me breath deeper
The kids and Brandon snorkeling at another gem of a beach

Back at our beach
See what I mean, atleast 7 miles of unoccupied beach.
Sand time
Yay
Messing around
Approaching sunset and still in the water
Breath taking sunsets
Still in the water
Sun is down
A new sand castle for every day
Emma is a such a character, she wanted to pretnd she was barrried while asleep.
And he's a character too.

Another milestone
I got some great gift cards this past week for my birthday to one of my favorite stores, Joann Fabric and Crafts. I got this wild idea that I would actually find a pattern (simple to start) and make a dress for Emma from an actual pattern. So, here is the pattern I chose:

-
And here is the finished product. I don't have a model right now to try it on, she is in Utah with her Papa and Grandma. However, I am sure it will fit perfectly. This was fun, it did take me three hours. Thank goodness I didn't have any distractions. It is a simple pattern, but I wanted this dress to be perfect and by the books (or should I say pattern). It definitely came out looking like a little boutique dress, which I love.Yay me!
